Stay with us on Feb 18 for a Chance for Free Accommodations!

  • Jan 3 update: Good news!! Your chances of winning have dramatically improved. Two of our eight rooms have been reserved to non-participants the night of Feb 18. This means you now have a 1 in 6 chance of winning free accommodations!
In honor of the San Miguel de Allende 2011 writer’s conference, we will have a writing competition exclusively for guests that stay at Antigua Capilla Bed and Breakfast on Feb 18.

We have 8 rooms, with two already reserved, and all guests will have the opportunity to participate. Therefore, the odds of winning are one-in-eight, assuming we receive an entry from every room.

In order for the competition to occur, all eight rooms need to be reserved on Feb 18. Otherwise, the competition will be canceled.

Here's how to play:
  1. Register for the Writers' Conference. You must be registered to participate.
  2. Reserve your room at Antigua Capilla Bed and Breakfast. Be sure your stay includes February 18, 2011.
  3. Wait for further instructions.
  4. Once all rooms are reserved, and the competition is confirmed, submit a short story of no more than 1,000 words on any topic of your choice by no later than February 11, 2011.
  5. On February 18, vote anonymously for your favorite story (excluding your own.)
The winner will be announced on February 19. The participant with the most votes will have his or her accommodations reimbursed (up to four nights). If the winner has reserved a longer stay, he or she will only be obligated to pay for the additional nights. If the winner stays four or less nights, his or her accommodations will be 100% complementary.

Good luck!

You Can't Beat the Value of a B&B

A recent stay at a resort and spa in Tucson reminded us of the reasons why we prefer B&B’s like ours to other types of accommodations. You can’t beat the value of a B&B. While the resort was quite nice, we were charged extra for just about everything besides the bed, the cable TV and the hot shower! The extras added up to over $100 dollars per night. Here’s how the resort in Tucson compares to Antigua Capilla B&B in San Miguel de Allende:

Room rate - $300 and up at the resort. $150 to $200 at Antigua Capilla B&B

Breakfast for two - $60 at the resort. Free at Antigua Capilla B&B

In-room Movies - $15 at the resort. Free at Antigua Capilla B&B

Internet Access - $10 per day at the resort. Free at Antigua Capilla B&B

Long distance calls $1.59 per minute at the resort. Free at Antigua Capilla B&B

Parking - $20 per night at the resort. Free at Antigua Capilla B&B

Resort fees - $15 per night (what is this anyway?). Free at Antigua Capilla B&B

San Miguel de Allende Visitors From the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles Can Now Fly Direct to Toluca and Guadalajara on Volaris

October 10 update - We just flew on the new route from Oakland to Leon via Tijuana, and it was a breeze. We cleared customs in Tijuana in a few minutes and hung out in the VIP lounge for $165 pesos while we waited for our connecting flight (free internet and drinks).

July 19 update - We just heard that Volaris will start flying from Oakland to Tijuana in August. Volaris already flies to Leon from Tijuana, so this might be the best option yet for our Bay Area visitors!

As of July 16th 2009, Volaris Airlines, a three-year-old Mexican airline with a fleet of brand new Air Bus A319’s, has begun low-cost direct flights from the Oakland Airport (OAK) to the Toluca (TLC) and Guadalajara (GDL) International Airports.

We did a quick flight search and found a round trip fare of $368.65 from Oakland to Toluca with taxes included. That’s not bad!

Toluca is located 4.5 hours south of Antigua Capilla Bed and Breakfast in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Click here to read about getting to San Miguel de Allende fro Toluca. Guadalajara is a bit further away at 5 hours. For moer information on how to get to San Miguel from Guadahara, click here. The ETN and Primera Plus bus companies both offer comfortable and affordable first-class service from Toluca and Guadalajara to San Miguel de Allende.

We are very excited about this news because, although the Leon Airport (BJX) remains the number 1 choice for most US travelers visiting San Miguel, these flights give our visitors more affordable options to choose from. Now, guests of Antigua Capilla B&B have a choice of five airports, Queretaro (QRO), Leon, Mexico City (MEX), and now Toluca and Guadalajara.

Reserve a room now at our San Miguel B&B before the secret gets out!

Cheap Flights from the States to Mexico

The flu scare has really been keeping people away lately. That means that we have San Miguel de Allende all to ourselves, and for those of us who travel between Mexico and the US, there are deals to be found. The airlines have slashed their prices by over 50% in some cases.

The savvy traveler can purchase round trip tickets for under $400 right now. At the time of posting, United has round trip fares from SFO to MEX for $380, taxes included! Aeromexico is even less at only $315! We’ve seen the same flights advertised for over $800. American and Continental are offering round trip tickets from Dallas to the Leon airport for $380.

Prices have not been this low in a while, but this won't last. As people get over their fears, tickets will begin to creep upwards.

Plan ahead and buy your tickets now!
